This 15,000 square foot museum presents the intertwined stories of the life and times of William F. Cody, plainsman, scout, buffalo hunter, indian fighter, entrepreneur and family man, with Buffalo Bill, showman and world famous celebrity. The museum plan creates “two museums in one” by utilizing the exterior walls as an art gallery displaying the museum’s rich collection of paintings, posters and photographs that are keyed to the three-dimensional displays in the interior spaces. Artifacts such as Lucretia Borgia, Cody’s buffalo rifle; his Medal of Honor, Cody’s show costume and saddle, as well as Annie Oakley’s rifle and Wild West Show costumes are a small part of the treasures on display upon which the story is based.
